Sturgis Cinderella Story For Butterman
It was another weekend of exciting racing at the 3rd Annual AMA Supermoto Sturgis National Presented by Metzeler as crowds lined the streets and bars of downtown Sturgis, South Dakota, for two days of racing September 19-20.
Day one featured fierce racing for the penultimate round of the championship, and Sean Butterman made the big comeback from injury to take his first ever Open Pro National win. The Ryder Smith Racing rider has had a long road back from breaking both arms last December and has been struggling all year with the injury.
"Unbelievable,” said Butterman about his first win. “To be able to battle the whole race with Micky (Dymond) and (Tyler) Sweeney and come out on top was the best feeling in the world."
Two-time AMA 125cc Motocross and 2005 AMA Unlimited Supermoto Champion Micky Dymond brought his Intents Racing Honda home in second with Cycle 128’s Tyler Sweeney third.
Unfortunately for series-points leader Gage McAllister, his win streak came to an end in Sturgis as the Intents Racing Honda rider suffered brake problems and limped his way around the track to finish eighth. In the end, the Northern Californian still sits on a healthy points lead in the championship going into the final round of the series at Mussleman Honda Circuit in Tuscon, Arizona, November 6-8.
