At the end of the two days of races of the Italian Supermoto Championship on the circuit South Milan di Ottobiano, it is clear that the two 2008 champions Ivan Lazzarini and David Gozzini haven't lost any speed, Lazzarini is leader of the S1 Championship thanks to two beautiful victories on the new 2009 HM Honda CRF of the team of Alfredo Bevilacqua. Italian TM rider Gozzini leads the S2 class with a win in race 1 and third place in the second race, behind Frenchy Adrien Chareyre (Husqvarna) and Belgian rider Gerald Delepine (Husqvarna).
The easter weekend is concluded with an International race, which is held between the best riders of the S1 and S2 classes. That race went to Adrien Chareyre followed by Lazzarini, Delepine, Gozzini and Balducci.
In the classes S4 and S5, the leaders are Mark Animento (Kawasaki), thanks to the two victories. In the S5 class Mattia Martella (Ktm) leads with two 2nd place finishes. In the two Cup classes, the HM Honda class and Suzuki class, those Cups are leaded by Gattuzzo that won both races, and Simone Cecchetti leads the Suzuki Cup thanks to a third and a fifth place.

A while ago we announced Benny Carlson and Thierry van den Bosch as riders for the DRC Aprilia team. Well it seems like things changed in the meantime because Thierry van den Bosch decided to leave Aprilia and join the TM Factory team with Davide Gozzini and Andrea Occhini. Quite a surprising move but understandable since Aprilia doesn't have a Factory team in the World Supermoto Championship anymore.
Coaxed out of retirement just a couple of months ago, Jeff Ward put his Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull Honda into the winners circle at the opening round of the XTRM/AMA Supermoto Championship at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, on Sunday, March 22.On a twisty and challenging course, Ward got out in front early in the Premier final, but was passed by fast-qualifier Mark Burkhart on the newly formed HMC/Burkhart Racing KTM. That was short-lived, however, when Burkhart slid out in a minor fall on the second lap, putting Ward back in the lead and Burkhart in 12th place.

Bidart already has some experience in the AMA Supermoto Championship
A while ago we announced that Sylvain Bidart would be riding for the Luc1 Honda team in the French Championship. But there is a change in this situation:
From the CHM Team is the news that French Supermoto star Sylvain Bidart will be joining the team for the 2009 campaign beginning today at California Speedway in Fontana! Sylvain rode for the CHM Team during the last two rounds of the 2007 season and took a second place in his first race ever in the USA, beating out Mark Burkhart for second place at the Texas round, and then running up front at Morongo before finishing fourth. Look for good things from Sylvain as he looks to add an American Championship to his French Supermoto Championship resume.
It is unclear if Sylvain Bidart will also race for the Luc1 team in the French Supermoto Championship. I personally don't think so because the French Championship is in quite the crisis after 2 of its 5 races got cancelled.
