Yamaha and Aprilia Factory teams pulling out of AMA Supermoto

Mark Burkhart on the Graves Yamaha YZF

After HMC KTM deciding to pull out of AMA Supermoto more official factory teams are doing the same. The Factory Graves Yamaha Supermoto team decided it will not be competing in AMA Supermoto anymore, because of the current economic enviroment, the changing of the championship ownership into the hands of DMG and the uncertainty about the 2009 AMA Supermoto season. The Ripit Aprilia team won't be competing in the 2009 AMA Supermoto Championship either. RoadracerX had an interview about the downfall of AMA Supermoto with Graves Yamaha team owner Chuck Graves:

Delephine moves back to Cross2R Husqvarna

Two time SuperMoto World Champion Gerald Delepine will move back to the Husqvarna Cross2R Team in 2009. This is the same team Delephine took the 2005 World Championship with.
Becoming World Champion again in 2007 after a season long dogfight with eventual runner up Attilio Pignotti, Delepine had a tough start to the 2008 season and ended an eventual third in the S2 Championship.

On the other hand Cross2R had a troubled season with continuous ups and downs. With Kevin Berthome injuring himself at Greinbach. Sylvain Bidart went on to take sixth in the S1 Championship and also the French S1 National Title. Being provided with factory Husqvarna machinery both the team and Delepine aim at being a strong duo in 2009 with Cross2R also managing a Motocross team. Racing the Italian and European Championships this other squad will have the Husqvarna TC 250 and the riders will be Giò Di Palma and Pierluigi Facchetti.

A new line up including also S1 World Championship riders will be announced early in 2009.

Discovery Channel's Ultimate Biker Challenge: Supermoto

The guys from the French Motorcycle website Mototribu have a nice section of Supermoto pics and videos. A couple of days ago they uploaded the Supermoto episode of Discovery Channel's Ultimate Biker Challenge tv show.

The show is one of the best motorcycling TV shows I've ever seen. It features Journalist and TV presenter Warren Pole (yes he can actually ride pretty well) going on a trip around Europe to complete several challenges like competing in a stunt competition, riding the Erzberg enduro and racing a drag bike. The best episode is the one where Warren gets trained by Supermoto Champion Fred Fiorentino to compete in the Mettet Superbiker. If you want to watch the episode go here and click on the little triangle in the bottom left corner in the video player and then select 23 lecon de supermoto.

I really recommend watching this episode!

Sliding Angels: All girl Supermoto team

The Sliding Angels are a new all female Supermoto team from Italy. They will take part in the Regional Championships of Piemonte, Lombardy and in the Italian Supermoto Championship.

The Sliding Angels team consists of Marty, Alyssa, Monika (Ira) and Mary… four girls with a passion for Supermoto. They do not fear the comparison with the “strong sex” in this aggressive discipline.
