The 27th edition of Wanty Superbiker took place in changing conditions, on Saturday the weather was pretty good with some sunny moments. But on Sunday icy cold winds made it very hard for the riders and public to keep warm. Sadly the FMX show was cancelled because of these strong winds.

Hermunen won the Superbiker Mettet in 2010 and 2011, and then Romain Febvre was able to beat him in 2012.

This year, we expected a new confrontation between Hermunen and MX2 rider Febvre.

Unfortunately this confrontation could not take place. Febvre hurt his shoulder during training on Saturday. After jumping the big double jump he crashed hard on the landing. He was rushed to the hospital but fortunately there was no serious damage to his shoulder. He should be recovered after a couple of weeks rest.

With Febvre out Mauno Hermunen was pretty much unbeatable all weekend. Thomas and Adrien Chareyre fought hard to keep up but Hermunen didn’t make a lot of mistakes. In the Supermoto final he made a small mistake but then he easily overtook all the riders in front of him and crossed the finish line in 1st place. 2nd place was for Thomas Chareyre followed by fellow Frenchman Sylvain Bidart.

The big Superbiker final was a bit less exciting with Hermunen taking the holeshot and then increasing the gap with Thomas Chareyre lap after lap. He easily grabbed the win with a big 12 second lead. Bidart finished in 3rd place again followed by Marc Fraikin who decided that this was his last season of Supermoto racing.

Ivan Lazzarini finished 5th followed by Vermeulen, Nastran and Petard.

The fastest Starbiker was World Supersport MV Agusta rider Christian Iddon in 9th. Iddon also won the Starbiker final. His fellow starbiker MX1 rider Jeremy van Horebeek was the best of the pro MX riders competing in the Superbiker final. Not bad for his first time on a Supermoto.
