How about a small introduction of yourself to the readers of Supermoto Central?
I’m Shawn West owner of Moto Extremes (www.moto-extremes.com) specializing in supermoto parts we deal in Beringer brakes and Alpina wheels among a list of other brands on the web site.
How did you get into supermoto and what do you find so great about it?
Watching it on X-Games back in the day I just insantly fell in love with the sport.
After watching it I build my first 2003 Yamaha YZ450F.
When and how did the idea for this project originated? What was your inspiration?
It started as a factory 2009 HMC KTM 450 SMR Mark Burkhart bike with 61.3hp then I put my twist on it this past winter redoing it.

Can you tell us in short how the build went? Did you have any big problems or did it all went smooth?
Long and slow sourcing the parts I wanted to add to this already insane bike.
What do you use your bike for? Do you ride it on the street or just take it to the track once in a while?
Mainly for advertising and displays now as I don’t get to race as much as I use to with owning Moto Extremes and working another full time job keeps me super busy.
Do you have any plans for another supermoto project in the future?
Yeah I got a MTR Project in the Works. This 2009 KTM SMR is now for sale it hasn’t been ridden after all the new parts. It has 1.5 hrs on the engine and it is mint.
Have you got any tips or advice for people that want to start a project like this?
Buy good parts, be patient and have alot of money if buiding a competitive bike.
