How about a small introduction of yourself to the readers of Supermoto Central?

Hi,
My names king Karl, I come from the beautiful city of Bradford in the UK.
I am the leader of the world famous Flid supermoto riders, who are known and respected all over the world.


How did you get into supermoto and what do you find so great about it?

I got into supermoto in 2002, me and my mate nobstink were just about the first in our area to put crf450's on the road.

Thery are  great because the local police do not hassle you on the roads we ride, and you can leave big sports bikes on the right tracks.


When and how did the idea for this project originated? What was your inspiration?

I previously blinged up a CRF450 as much as I could go, when my fat mate Gaz bought one of these SXV's Ii just had to have one back in 06.

I wanted the stealth look, as far as im aware I was the first to paint a frame and swing arm black... along with the black plastics and etc that eventually was copied on the VDB SXV.

 

What’s was the base for your project?

A stock Aprilia SXV 550.

 

 

Can you tell us in short how the build went? Did you have any big problems or did it all went smooth?

The build went fairly straight forward.. the frame had to be painted due to having bonded joints, everything else was powder coated other then the plastics which also had to be painted as there was no black panels back then.

I also fitted Ohlins forks which was a hassle with spacers, spindles ans fork cartridges all different sizes, I eventually went back to stock forks.

 

 

What do you use your bike for? Do you ride it on the street or just take it to the track once in a while?

The bike is used 50-50 road and track, it spends most of its life on the back wheel.

 



Is this your first supermoto project or did you also build other supermoto bikes?

I have owned a few other moto's.. 2 crf's, 1 650 berg... but this and an 05 crf I went to town on modifying.

 

 

 Do you have any plans for another supermoto project in the future?

If ever a 650 SXV is made I will be getting one, or I see a road reg VDB 550 for sale


Have you got any tips or advice for people that want to start a project like this?

Hide the bank statements and try to be original.
